December 22 - Bees and Teas and Memories

This is another ornament given to me by one of the Bees.  Our times together are always so much fun.  Here are some shots from Bee gatherings over the years.  You can see we've done a lot and had a lot of fun together.  I'm so blessed to have these friends. December 21 - Purse-a-nality

This cute little number was given to me by my friend, Kathy, also known as "Kaby".  She knows how much I love purses. In fact, she also appreciates a good handbag.  While Kaby's tastes run more to colorful Kate Spade purses, mine are usually less expensive and more whimsical.  For example, one of my favorites is a bag I bought from a handcrafter which is made from recycled jeans and a vintage tablecloth. I remember one summer, returning from the beach with my good friends Joyce and the above-mentioned Kathy. We stopped in Berlin, Maryland, a quaint little town to have lunch and do some last minute shopping.  We were strolling through a store when I spied the most awesome Mary Frances bag.  It was a novelty purse with a tea theme. I picked it up about a half dozen times. I wanted it so bad but I couldn't justify the price tag. It was a very small purse and I knew my use of it would be limited.  All the way home in the car I thought about that purse. Every so of

December 20 - Bangladesh, Miss Peggy, and Sunday School Memories

Ah, growing up in the Dickson City Primitive Methodist Church was a great foundation for this Glory Bee.  How I loved the singing, the stories, the love, and The Bible. I remember flannelgraphs and sword drills and marching to "Onward Christian Soldiers".  And oh, at Christmastime we always had the most exciting Children's Christmas Program.  All the children would have poems that they would get up and recite when called upon. We'd sit up on the stage in our finest dress, something we got special just for that night if our parents could afford it.  Some children sang solos, duets, or trios and we always had group numbers.  As we'd go through the program, Mr. Evans, the Sunday School Superintendent would have a report every so often saying he just got a message about where Santa was or that someone had called to report a sleigh in the sky overhead about 20 miles away.... things to that effect. At the end, we'd wait for the "Ho ho ho" and down the st

Cape May Memories

I bought a beautiful ornament in Cape May. It has painted Victorian homes on it, just like the lovely homes you see when you walk down the street there. But it's not my Cape May ornament of choice. I rather like this one, a painted clam shell with a very faint picture of the sea. A ribbon is glued to it and beneath the rough painting it is written "Cape May 2011".  I bought it when we went on the Cape May candlelight tour from a young man who was selling them. He was a proud young man with an obvious developmental disability but he seemed really know something about the Christmas spirit, as he sold these items with proceeds going to his school.. It brings back to me the magic of Cape May and the lovely time we had enjoying the atmosphere.  It was a trip with my friends ("The Bees") to celebrate Christmas.  We stayed at a wonderful Bed & Breakfast called  Beauclaire's .  We each got our own room, to which we added a few decorating touches. We  broug

December 18 Photos

This ornament was in a stocking gift that Ginger gave me one year and inside it she put a photo of Lloyd and me that was taken in Williamsburg VA the year before.  This reminds me of how much we love photographs now and how easy digital photography has made it to quickly and conveniently take, view, and share photos. Does anyone else remember these relics of the past: Film Threading film into the camera The new invention of film that just dropped into the camera Trying not to use up all your film in case you needed it near the end of the trip for that perfect photo Trying to use up the end of the film after the trip was over The excitement of Polaroids - no more waiting for developing film What happened if you didn't let the polaroid picture dry completely Flash bulbs Flash cubes Kodachrome when we finally got rid of black and white photos Those little picture books that some developers made Drive through film drop offs Mailing film for processing Photo albums T

December 17 - Nothing To Say

I got this ornament when my sister and I visited Arizona about seven years ago. We had a marvelous time and I will never forget seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. I'll say no more. Words cannot do justice and photographs can't capture it.  But I'll give it a try anyway. This song by Andrew Peterson just bowls me over as did Arizona.  I've also added some of my Arizona photos below the YouTube widget.
