Showers of Blessings

Boy did it rain this weekend! We had some flooding in the basement. It just kept pouring and pouring and it was coming down harder and harder and our gutters and drains couldn't keep up with it. I've heard up people having water up to their ankles or knees in storms like this so I guess we were blessed to be able to get it sopped up with towels (although we did use every available towel). I thought of the people in Texas, many with no homes and a lot with no power so we cannot complain. We were supposed to have a backyard barbecue as a birthday party for a friend. We abandoned that thought with the rains and decided we'd go to plan B. We would eat inside but cook outside. The rains didn't stop as early as planned. Lloyd didn't want to be running back and forth with an umbrella flipping burgers so we went to plan C. We'll use the nice open basement that we have. Then came the flooding. Plan D. Variety Year

I turned 57 this past week. I'm calling it my Variety Year - for 57 always reminds me of Heinz and the 57 varieties. So I'm declaring this to be an eclectic year with lots of different kinds of fun and interesting things. It was off to a good start. We spent Saturday afternoon antiquing in Baltimore. Our big find was a wooden door for $5. What a steal! It will even fit our pantry. Then we went to the schlocky side of town and shopped and dined in Hampden, Hon.
