Showers of Blessings

Boy did it rain this weekend! We had some flooding in the basement. It just kept pouring and pouring and it was coming down harder and harder and our gutters and drains couldn't keep up with it. I've heard up people having water up to their ankles or knees in storms like this so I guess we were blessed to be able to get it sopped up with towels (although we did use every available towel). I thought of the people in Texas, many with no homes and a lot with no power so we cannot complain.
We were supposed to have a backyard barbecue as a birthday party for a friend. We abandoned that thought with the rains and decided we'd go to plan B. We would eat inside but cook outside. The rains didn't stop as early as planned. Lloyd didn't want to be running back and forth with an umbrella flipping burgers so we went to plan C. We'll use the nice open basement that we have. Then came the flooding. Plan D. Everyone upstairs. Very cozy. Lots of good fun. Less people showed because of the weather, colds, and other unexpected things but 15 of us did manage to have a very fun time. And that is the shower of blessing - the blessing of friends. My life is so rich because of them.

A Good Week for Geezers

The 75 year old Joan Rivers was crowned the new Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday. On The Biggest Loser show, Helen (who was constantly bemoaning her age vs. the younger people she was competing with) won the whole enchilada. She had lost a total of 140 pounds. And Jerry, who is 64 years old, won the $100K prize for losing almost 48 percent of his body weight. Even the Aussie who was on the show from Australia's Biggest Loser was 57 (my age incidentally). Does this give me hope or add pressure? I'm not so sure. But I'm just happy to know that it's not all about the twenty or thirty somethings.

Notes from 7/20 Bible Study - Things That Are Just

Philippians 4: 8-9 Think on These Things - Things that are Just These are my unedited prep notes.  Apologies for the various fonts - copy/pasted scriptures from various sources 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,  whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Intro & Quick review:         Thinking (logizomai) means to take an inventory of, count of, estimate, reckon.      We have discussed thinking on things that are true and things that are honorable and noble.         We have discussed why thinking these thoughts is key to fulfillment in our Christian...
