Women's Bible Study Thurs. Aug 17

Women's Bible Study Thursday August 17 at Boulevard Apartments in Largo.  Bring a friend!

See below for info on how to find us.  For those who wish to come early and buy some Mexican Food for dinner or a snack, the St. Pete Taco Lady food truck will be at The Boulevard clubhouse. Just let Linda know and we can dine in the outdoor living room if the weather permits.

Now for the REAL food:  For those who wish to prepare or meditate on the passage, we will be studying what it means to think on “things that are lovely”.

Reference text:  “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things" - Philippians 4:8
Companion text: "How lovely is your dwelling place,  Lord Almighty" - Psalm 84:1

If you have time to prepare, here are three thoughts to consider.  We will discuss these questions:
1) The word that is used in Philippians 4:8 for "lovely" is only used here in this one occurrence in the whole New Testament. It is believed to be related to a type of friendship love. (Same root as Philadelphia - brotherly love).  How has the love of other believers positively influenced you on your Christian journey?
2) Psalm 84:1 says "How lovely is your dwelling place,  Lord Almighty".  Why is it lovely?  How do we experience that loveliness in our lives?
3) Loveliness is connected to beauty. Isaiah 61:3 speaks of God giving us beauty for ashes.  What happens if we hold on to the ashes? How does holding on to thoughts that don't align with Philippians 4:8, thoughts that come from our old natures, hinder us?

How to Find Us

Women's Bible Study and Fellowship at Boulevard Apartments Largo (Seminole Blvd just north of Ulmerton).  Address is 2098 Seminole Boulevard. We meet the first and third Thursdays of every month at 7 PM.

Here's how to get in:  As you drive in, look for a small yellow pole on the left (about 2 car lengths before the actual gates) and use the keypad to dial #307.  That will call us and we will use our phone to acknowledge so you can get in.

After the gates you will see one lower building directly ahead of you. That is the clubhouse.  When you are facing the clubhouse, if you look to the left you will see our building (#3).   There is an elevator.  We are on the 4th floor.

Email, text, or Facebook PM Linda Sargent for more information including apartment # and phone number.

Social Media Fast Day 1/2 I have been considering a social media fast.  Unbeknownst to me, someone I know was on a week long fast. She reported about how beneficial it was and I took that as a confirmation that this was the time for me. September 1 sneaked up on me and I had some commitments for posting some prayer requests, but once that was done, I uninstalled Facebook (my primary Social Media) form my phone. I can pretty well ignore Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn and the like but Facebook is my constant itch that I have to keep scratching. I came to the realization that I primarily use Facebook to feed my desire for approbation.  Don't we all want to be admired and respected?  Don't we often want to be right, to have a forum where others are agreeing with our brilliance?  LOL I'm guilty. I also realize the other downside of social media for me and that's all the political vitriol.  As much as I don't get sucked into it, as much as I scroll past...

Just a few more memories

There were a few photos that I didn't post on the entry about our trip to Boca Raton.  I'm sure I have a bunch more in various places. I figure we gained 7 pounds, 700 friends, 7,000 memories and 7,000,000 photographs. Video from Awards Night

Ornament of the Day - December 1

After a year long hiatus from blogging, I'm back to muse about the ornaments hanging on our tree.  Each day I will select an ornament and tell something about where it came from and the memories that it invokes.   December 1 - Currier & Ives This ornament came to me from my parents. They got it as a gift for opening a Christmas Club. These accounts are not so popular now and they sometimes earned a bad rap for having a lot of restrictions and a low or non-existent interest rate, but back in the day they were how we paid for Christmas. Members were often given some sort of token give such as this ornament.   When I look at this ornament it takes me back to my youth and young adulthood. We'd put a few dollars into our Christmas Club each week and just after Thanksgiving we'd get our cash.  Shopping meant going "downtown".  For us, that meant downtown Scranton.   Sometimes we'd take the bus. I remember as a child how exciting it was to be downtown g...
