A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to 2011

Tomorrow is the last day of the year.  I looked back through my posts from the beginning of this year to see how I did with my goals.  I'm pretty happy with the personal goals that I achieved and the fact that I decided to tweak a few of them.  Life's too short to set too many rules for yourself. Here's my report to myself:

  • Have a relaxing vacation with Lloyd and Ginger - Done!  We had a wonderful week in Bethany Beach in July.
  • Buy a KitchenAid Stand Mixer - Done!  And I love it.
  • Read through the Bible end to end - Abandoned.  I was finding that this was getting too rigid for me.  I may revisit it some day (maybe even in 2011) but I was missing too much. There were times I just wanted to dwell on three verses that we speaking to me.  I think trying to do it in a year isn't the answer for me.  Maybe just reading through it at whatever pace I need is the answer.
  • Learn to cook some new, creative dishes - This is a sort of thing.  I tried new recipes but I wouldn't say I really did anything all that creative.  But I did enjoy cooking.
  • Not gain more than 2 pounds - This is a goal I achieved all the way up to November.  Since then I'm off the wagon a bit, at about three and a half pounds over last year's weight. Holiday stuff.  A good walking program early in 2011 should set me back on track.
  • Take a class - I took one class called Organizational Savvy.  I really enjoyed it.
  • Go to NYC in the spring - Done!  Lloyd and I had a blast. We stayed at The Marriott Marquis. We walked and shopped and ate and went to a taping of The Huckabee Show.
  • Spend some quality time at the beach with the bees
  • Discover my portion in the Body of Christ - Ongoing!  This year we started attending a local branch ministry that is growing.  It is a calling and I know it in my heart.
  • Show appreciation more - I honestly don't know if I have.
  • Clean up my home office, Oh boy. Fell down on this one. Good goal for 2011. It's one floor up, in the eaves and I almost never go there. But no excuses, heh-heh.
  • Paint the glider and retro chairs - Done! But to be honest, Lloyd beat me to this one. I'm not complaining though.
  • Get more sleep - Not as much as I'd like.  I've got to learn to decompress at night.
  • Host a brunch - Nope.  This is something I used to do but I haven't done it this year.  I've had friends over for lunch or dinner but not the big brunch deal.  Maybe soon. Maybe not.
  • Pray like never before - You know this just happened mid-year.  I think it's a result of hearing the Word of God more.  But I love it.  I love fellowshipping with my savior.  This was  nothing I did.  It's all grace.
Below are some photos from the  year.  I did a lot of other stuff I didn't plan to do (meet Beth at her party, have fun at work during Asian Heritage month, live through a hundred-year snow event, meet our dear granddaughter-in-law and her mother (in same snowstorm), and lots more

A Good Week for Geezers

The 75 year old Joan Rivers was crowned the new Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday. On The Biggest Loser show, Helen (who was constantly bemoaning her age vs. the younger people she was competing with) won the whole enchilada. She had lost a total of 140 pounds. And Jerry, who is 64 years old, won the $100K prize for losing almost 48 percent of his body weight. Even the Aussie who was on the show from Australia's Biggest Loser was 57 (my age incidentally). Does this give me hope or add pressure? I'm not so sure. But I'm just happy to know that it's not all about the twenty or thirty somethings.

Notes from 7/20 Bible Study - Things That Are Just

Philippians 4: 8-9 Think on These Things - Things that are Just These are my unedited prep notes.  Apologies for the various fonts - copy/pasted scriptures from various sources 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,  whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Intro & Quick review:         Thinking (logizomai) means to take an inventory of, count of, estimate, reckon.      We have discussed thinking on things that are true and things that are honorable and noble.         We have discussed why thinking these thoughts is key to fulfillment in our Christian...
