I overheard someone at work today talking about diamond purchases. She was saying that when she got her diamond, the jeweler pointed out that there were some flaws. She saw a beautiful, sparkling rock that was about to be hers. She kept gazing at it once she got it and was struck by it's beauty. Then not long after, she was driving and the way the sun hit the diamond caused the reflection to show the occlusion. She swore that from thereafter she could see that occlusion with her naked eye.
Isn't that like life? Did you ever have someone plant a negative thought in you about another person? You hear it and you think "Oh, I don't see the flaw." Then one day, some set of circumstances causes a different reflection and you suddenly see that glaring flaw that you might have never noticed had someone not introduced you to the idea of it.
Something to ponder:
"Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies" (Philippians 4:8-9 The Message Translation)
