An Extraordinary Ordinary Day

Today was an ordinary Saturday. We took the dog to the groomers, bought plants at Home Depot, putzed around the backyard, watched The O's on TV. It was extraordinary because it was so ordinary.

DH has been so sick. He's been in the hospital three times since April. Four weeks ago he was going into septic shock and almost died. Just about a week ago he was bleeding internally and in a near-criticial situation by the time he got the ER.

So today I'm thanking God for our most ordinary day. It was wonderful just to be ourselves and do everyday things. And oh so wonderful to have my Lloydy back again and as close to himself as he's been in a very long time.

The lyrics from this song don't exactly mirror my situation (although I'd love to feel the ocean breeze through my window) but nevetheless it fits. This is a song by Fernando Orgeta that's going through my head right now:

This Good Day by Fernando Ortega
Morning sun and morning glories
Pouring down the hill,
Through my window

I can feel the ocean breeze.
Noisy sparrows fill the oak trees
Swallows can't stay still,
And in the glad commotion

Lord, You speak to me
Chorus: If the rain clouds come
Or the cold winds blow,
You're the one who goes before me
And in my heart I know
This good day
It is a gift from You.
The world is turning in its place
because You made it to.
I lift my voice
To sing a song of praise
On this good day.
I will walk to Woodman's Cove,
The fishing boats are leaving,
Seagulls follow just above the water.
I will wait until the sunset
Brings them home again,
Rigging lines and anchors in the harbor.
Chorus: If the rain clouds come
Or the cold winds blow,
You're the one who goes before me
And in my heart I know
This good day
It is a gift from You.
The world is turning in its place
because You made it to.
I lift my voice
To sing a song of praise
On this good day.

A Good Week for Geezers

The 75 year old Joan Rivers was crowned the new Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday. On The Biggest Loser show, Helen (who was constantly bemoaning her age vs. the younger people she was competing with) won the whole enchilada. She had lost a total of 140 pounds. And Jerry, who is 64 years old, won the $100K prize for losing almost 48 percent of his body weight. Even the Aussie who was on the show from Australia's Biggest Loser was 57 (my age incidentally). Does this give me hope or add pressure? I'm not so sure. But I'm just happy to know that it's not all about the twenty or thirty somethings.

Notes from 7/20 Bible Study - Things That Are Just

Philippians 4: 8-9 Think on These Things - Things that are Just These are my unedited prep notes.  Apologies for the various fonts - copy/pasted scriptures from various sources 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,  whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Intro & Quick review:         Thinking (logizomai) means to take an inventory of, count of, estimate, reckon.      We have discussed thinking on things that are true and things that are honorable and noble.         We have discussed why thinking these thoughts is key to fulfillment in our Christian...
