What Signs Do You Believe?

I had a life lesson yesterday when I was reminded that a sign can be wrong. I was driving down I-95 in rush hour traffic near the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore. This stretch of the road is usually very crowded at that hour and a fender bender or flat tire in the tunnel or road construction can wreak havoc on the commute.

Yesterday there was a big electronic sign that read something like "Road Work. Two left lanes closed at toll plaza". I muttered to myself about how stupid it would be to have construction close lanes during rush hour. I stayed in the lane I was in and suddenly realized that I was in one of those lanes when I saw traffic bunching up and moving to the right.

By dumb luck alone I stayed in my lane until it was too late. That was a good thing for there was no construction. The sign was probably never turned out from the early morning hours when they often do this kind of work. So I found myself sailing through while others were in slow moving traffic.

I realized that life is like that. We sometimes see something that we interpret as a sign that we should do something. We get subjective and act on what we hear or see. While it may have the appearance of great authority, it may also just be wrong information.

How do I know when I'm heeding the right instruction? When I submit my decsions to God and allow Him to show me the way. Still sometimes I'll hear the wrong voice and go astray but I can be content in knowing He will leave the 90 and 9.

A Good Week for Geezers

The 75 year old Joan Rivers was crowned the new Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday. On The Biggest Loser show, Helen (who was constantly bemoaning her age vs. the younger people she was competing with) won the whole enchilada. She had lost a total of 140 pounds. And Jerry, who is 64 years old, won the $100K prize for losing almost 48 percent of his body weight. Even the Aussie who was on the show from Australia's Biggest Loser was 57 (my age incidentally). Does this give me hope or add pressure? I'm not so sure. But I'm just happy to know that it's not all about the twenty or thirty somethings.

Philippians 4: 8-9 Think on These Things - Things that are Just These are my unedited prep notes.  Apologies for the various fonts - copy/pasted scriptures from various sources 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,  whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Intro & Quick review:         Thinking (logizomai) means to take an inventory of, count of, estimate, reckon.      We have discussed thinking on things that are true and things that are honorable and noble.         We have discussed why thinking these thoughts is key to fulfillment in our Christian...
